Work Place Training

EVERY PROFESSION CARRIES                                                SOME DEGREE OF RISK ...

Whether you are in manufacturing, construction, service or retail, accidents happen in every type of workplace.  In 2001 alone, there were 5.2 million injuries and illnesses and 5,900 deaths reported at workplaces throughout the United States!  Being prepared to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively is a business necessity in this day and age

Health and safety training programs are a smart way to reduce or even avoid injuries and fatalities in any work environment.  What's more, studies show a $4 to $6 return for every dollar invested in health and safety training1, with improvements in productivity, absenteeism and morale.

Implementing an effective training program is no small task.  That's why so many of your peers have chosen the American Red Cross to meet OSHA First Aid Guidelines.  The Red Cross offers a wide range of training programs designed to teach employees how to protect themselves, as well as co-workers and customers -- and maybe even save a life.  Topics include:

   CPR
   Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
   First Aid
   Injury Prevention
   Bloodborne Pathogens Training

Build training around your company's needs, schedules and work locations.  Our modular training design allows you to build a program to meet the individual needs of your business.  Plus, streamlined training means you can offer additional training to address other common workplace safety needs.  We offer training at your facility or at the Red Cross office.

By leading the way in health and safety training for more than 90 years, the Red Cross gives employees the confidence to respond in emergency situations with skills that make a difference.

CPR Training

By combining lecture, video demonstrations and hands-on manikin training, this course teaches participants to:

  • Call and work with EMS
  • Care for conscious and unconscious choking victims
  • Perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults
  • Avoid bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Know the role of AEDs in the Cardiac Chain of Survival

AED (Automated External Defibrillation)

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen anytime, anywhere and to anyone.  It claims the lives of 220,000 people in this country every year.  When SCA strikes, seconds mean the difference between life and death.  With each minute of elapsed time before defibrillation, the survival rate of the victim diminishes by 10%.

Thanks to an easy-to-use, portable device called an automated external defibrillator (AED) and training from the American Red Cross, ordinary people can be life-savers.  By delivering an electric shock to the heart, an AED can restore a heart's normal rhythm.  Immediate use of an AED, in conjunction with CPR, could save up to 50,000 lives a year.

American Red Cross AED training teaches participants how to respond to victims of sudden cardiac arrest.  Participants will learn how today's AEDs are easy to use, thereby minimizing response anxiety.

The American Red Cross can assist you in every phase of creating an AED program:

  • Training your employees in CPR, first aid and AED skills
  • Facilitating the purchase of AEDs
  • Providing information on developing or upgrading emergency procedures

First Aid

The First Aid training features a lecture, interactive video demonstrations, discussions and hands-on training that will teach participants how to:

  • Recognize emergency situations
  • Check the scene and call for help
  • Avoid bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Care for wounds, bone and soft-tissue injuries, head and spinal injuries, burns, and heat and cold emergencies
  • Manage sudden illnesses, stroke, seizure, bites and poisoning
  • Minimize shock

Preventing Disease Transmission
(Bloodborne Pathogens)
This 2-hour course combines lecture, demonstrations and video to build awareness of bloodborne pathogens and to teach exposure-prevention skills.  Instructors can customize content to their facilities' exposure plans, making this an excellent complement to first aid and CPR training.
