The Red Cross considers a 3 day supply adequate for meeting the basic needs of hospitals and emergency treatment blood needs; a 5 to 7 day supply is optimal for responding to a disaster.

To donate blood, you must be 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds, and be in general good health. You must bring a donor card or photo ID to donate.
